Predicting growth in the region's airports

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey periodically projects air travel demand for the region's airports, estimating a high, medium and low number of annual air passengers for future projection years. However, these projections have a wide range and are being continually updated as the health of the economy shifts. 

This past spring, the Port Authority lowered air travel projections in response to the current recession. As you can see, there is a gap between the highest and lowest projections of about 25 million people by 2018. The wide range of estimates makes it clear that planning for travel growth must be flexible.
